2029 Coastal Master Plan
The 2029 Coastal Master Plan will build upon previous master plan efforts and strive to ensure that the collective effects of project investments reduce storm surge-based flood risk to communities, provide habitat for commercial and recreational activities, and reinforce infrastructure critical to the working coast.
WHAT’S NEW?
In spring 2024, the master plan team held a series of Community Conversation outreach meetings in order to begin meaningful engagement with coastal residents. In contrast to other CPRA meetings that focus on specific projects or funding, we went to coastal residents early in the 2029 master planning process to ask questions, hear concerns, and discuss what is most important to their communities.
Louisiana’s coastal residents are one of our greatest resources, bringing a diverse set of knowledge, experiences, and perspectives to the table. By better understanding local priorities and having these conversations before project development, CPRA will be able to incorporate coastal residents’ priorities into the planning and analyses from the very beginning to create a more impactful and representative 2029 Coastal Master Plan.
WHAT’S NEXT?
As we’re incorporating the best available science to update and refine the 2029 Coastal Master Plan process, we will continue and build upon the 2023 plan’s regional approach. Below is a brief summary of key activities currently underway:
- Leveraging new and ongoing research and analysis to improve the Coastal Master Plan and better communicate the future of our coast to coastal communities
- Expanding how risks are quantified for coastal residents
- Organizing community, regional, and coastal advisory groups to start meeting in early 2025
- Considering the effects of coastal change and the potential responses for people and communities
- Throughout the master plan development process we will continue outreach and engagement efforts with those who live, work, and play in coastal Louisiana
The master plan team will hold a second set of Community Conversation meetings for new project development in summer 2025. Additional information will be announced as meeting specifics are finalized.
