Isle Au Pitre

Project Overview:

This project will restore colonial water bird nesting habitat on Isle au Pitre in St. Bernard Parish. The island is currently 40 acres in size, but suitable nesting habitat on the island has been reduced to less than 2 acres. This project will enhance nesting conditions on the existing island by elevating portions of the island with dredged sediment and planting suitable vegetation for nesting brown pelicans and wading birds.
