Sinking St. Bernard levees could bend pilings; Corps to install monitoring system

Sinking soils beneath 22 miles of huge concrete floodwalls protecting St. Bernard Parish have a slight chance of bending the 75-foot-long pilings stabilizing the wall, a problem that could eventually affect the stability of the structure, according to a new study for the Army Corps of Engineers.
